Welcome to Manitou Springs!
The town was founded in 1872 by General William Jackson Palmer and Dr. William Abraham Bell due to its scenic setting and natural mineral springs and in 1876, the town was incorporated. Today Dr Bell’s home, Briarhurst Manor, is open to the public as a fine dining restaurant and is listed on the National Register of Historic places. It has been a tourist town since the 1870s, and its early visitors revealed the healing waters that the Ute Indians had been drinking for years. Many of the town’s mineral springs are still functioning today!
